Christina Claire Ciminella gave birth to Wynonna Judd in Ashland, Kentucky, on May 30, 1964. The singer Naomi Judd was her mother. The name Michael Ciminella, whom her mother had married shortly after her lover and Judd’s biological father, Charles Jordan, died in 2000, is the inspiration behind her last name.
Ashley Judd is an actress; she is her younger half-sister. In 1968, the family relocated to Los Angeles, but by 1972, Naomi and Michael had separated. In 1999, Wynonna and her mother got back together for a K-Mart-sponsored New Year’s Eve show. In 2000, they went on a joint tour and released four new Judds songs. For the 18-city “The Last Encore” tour in 2010, they got back together.

Wynonna Judd Solo Career
Following their breakup, Wynonna became a solo singer and signed with MCA Records under the name Wynonna. She debuted solo on television for the first time at the American Music Awards in January 1992, releasing her debut single, “She Is His Only Need,” from her self-titled solo debut album.
That year, “I Saw the Light,” “My Strongest Weakness,” and “No One Else on Earth,” the album’s next three singles, also peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard country singles charts. Released in 1993, her platinum-selling second album “Tell Me Why” produced five straight Top Ten successes on the country charts: “Only Love,” “Is It Over Yet,” “Rock Bottom,” and “Girls with Guitars,” all written by Mary Chapin Carpenter.
In 1993, Wynonna was named the ACM Female Artist of the Year. Wynonna’s mother Naomi collected the award on her behalf as she was unable to attend the ceremony. “To Be Loved by You,” Wynonna’s fourth and last No. 1 success, served as the first single from her platinum-certified third album, “Revelations,” which she released in 1996.
She released “The Other Side,” her fourth and last album under the MCA label. It only received a gold certification and did not sell as well as her first three albums. Its lead singles also did not enjoy the same level of success as her earlier releases. After that, she switched from MCA to Mercury Records.
Wynonna released “New Day Dawning,” her sixth solo album, in 1999. The lead songs from her 2003 sixth studio album, “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” did quite well. One of the songs was a cover of “Burning Love” by Elvis Presley. Wynonna released “Her Story: Scenes from a Lifetime” in 2005.

Wynonna Judd Personal Life
In 1996, Judd wed Arch Kelley III. In December 1994, Elijah Judd, their son, was born. Given the conservative nature of her fan base at the time, having a child “out of wedlock” had an impact on her career. Following their 1995 marriage, the couple welcomed a second child before divorcing in 1998.
In November 2003, she wed D.R. Roach, her second husband. When Roach assaulted a youngster under the age of thirteen in 2007, it led to his incarceration. After five days, she filed for divorce. On June 10, 2012, in her Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee, home, Judd tied the knot with her longtime partner, Cactus Moser, drummer for the band Highway 101.
Two months later, Moser had to have his left leg amputated after suffering serious injuries in a motorbike accident in South Dakota. Wynonna’s daughter Grace admitted to possessing, producing, and distributing methamphetamines and was given an eight-year jail sentence for breaking probation in June 2018.
Nineteen days after The Judds’ last performance at the 2022 CMT Music Awards and one day prior to The Judds’ induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Naomi Judd committed suicide by gunshot in April of 2022. The following day, Wynonna and her sister Ashley honored their mother on stage at the event.
